Hello again, and welcome to Part Two of our easy guide to custom lampshade fittings. If you missed Part One, here it is.
Finials
It may be that your lampshade needs to be compatible with an American lamp – that’s where finials come in.
American-style Finial Fitting
Finials are similar to duplexes – the main difference being a smaller washer-like fixing that attaches to the non-adjustable carrier (or harp) at the top of the shade, usually finished with a screw-on decorative topper.

Finial fittings are very sturdy, and can be used on lampshades shades from 8″ in base diameter, up to around 22″.
Candle Clips
The candle clip is beautiful in its simplicity. So called because it is designed to slot directly over the candle or golf-ball shaped bulbs often used on chandeliers and wall lights, they are used for small candle shades only.
5″ Candle French Empires in Silver and Airforce Satin – £33
Typically, you wouldn’t use a candle clip on shades over 5″ or 6″ as their weight would overbalance them.
